POET at ECOC 2026: What to Watch and Why It Matters

The Oscars of Photonics
The optics industry lands in Malaga this month. ECOC 2026 runs September 20–24. It’s the biggest optical communications show in Europe. More than 8,000 people. Hundreds of exhibitor booths. For POET Technologies $POET shareholders, it’s the next date on the calendar that matters.
We made the case recently that copper has run out of road at the speeds AI clusters now demand. At ECOC, that argument stops being ours. It becomes the agenda. The 800G-to-1.6T-to-3.2T migration sits at the center of this year’s program. Everyone in the room is there to answer one question. Who can build optical links that replace copper at scale? POET’s Optical Interposer platform is one of the cleaner answers out there. That’s not a prediction. It’s why the company keeps getting invited to the podium.
The award ceremony comes first
POET Blazar is up for the 2026 ECOC Industry Award for Best Optical Component Innovation. The ceremony is September 21 in Malaga. And here’s the thing. POET didn’t just show up at ECOC 2025. It won. The company took home Most Innovative Chip-scale Packaging/Optical Sub Assembly Product in Copenhagen. A nomination isn’t a win. But two straight years on the shortlist tells you how the industry’s own judges rank this tech. That’s a different kind of validation than a stock chart.
Three partner paths, all on the clock
This is where the show gets interesting for us. POET arrives with three partner tracks. Each one has a public timeline the market can check.
1. Lessengers. The expanded deal targets a 1.6T 2xDR4 optical transceiver. It’s built on POET’s optical engines and Lessengers’ Direct Optical Wiring. Samples were slated for Q2 2026. So we want to know where those samples stand today.
2. LITEON. This one was announced in March. It pairs POET’s interposer with one of the world’s biggest optoelectronics makers to co-develop optical modules for AI systems. Prototypes are targeted for late 2026. ECOC is a checkpoint on that clock.
3. Sivers Semiconductors. Sivers supplies the DFB laser arrays that feed POET’s Starlight external light source. Production readiness is targeted by the end of 2026. Light sources are the picks and shovels of co-packaged optics. Any progress here matters more than it looks.
The OFC playbook says watch the wires
POET doesn’t treat conferences as photo ops. Look at OFC 2026 in Los Angeles this March. The company dropped the LITEON partnership and the expanded Lessengers deal in the same week the show opened. Real news, timed to the industry’s biggest stage. That’s the pattern. Conferences are where POET puts news on the tape while the whole industry is watching. We’d be surprised if ECOC week passed quietly.
A crowded two weeks in September
Stack it up. The Q2 release showed six straight quarters of sequential revenue growth and $796.3 million in cash. It also committed to a business update in September. Add the award ceremony on the 21st. Add the exhibition through the 24th. Add a retail base that’s been positioning for exactly this window. That’s a dense calendar. Dense calendars are where narratives get reset.
Our discipline note, same as always. A booth demo isn’t a purchase order and a nomination isn’t a win. What we’re watching is simple. Working silicon at 1.6T in partner hardware. Production language with a date attached. And whether the promised September update lands inside ECOC week or right behind it..
