POET Technologies $POET is going to Shenzhen. The company said Friday it will exhibit at CIOE 2026, which runs September 9-11 at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center. On its face, that's an attendance release. Companies put these out all the time. But one detail in this one deserves your attention, and it isn't the expo floor.
The speech is the story
Before CIOE opens, POET's Senior Vice President of Global Product Development, Dr. Mo Jinyu, speaks at IFOC. That's the optical communication conference that runs September 7-8, right ahead of the expo. Her topic: “High Power and Multi-wavelength Laser Light Sources for CPO/AI/ML Interconnects.” She's on September 8 at 2:50 p.m. local time.
Read that title twice. Light sources for co-packaged optics. That's not a survey talk. It's POET's home turf. The company's Blazar light source engine was built to feed exactly these systems — multiple wavelengths, high output, aimed at AI interconnects. When your product lead takes that subject to that audience, it's a sales call with a microphone.
Why Shenzhen matters
CIOE is the largest optoelectronics show in the world. More than 3,800 exhibitors from over 30 countries, with some 240,000 professional visitors expected. The global optical supply chain walks that floor every September — the module makers, the packagers, the people who buy lasers in volume. If you sell light source engines, your customers are in that building.
The CPO backdrop
A quick refresher on why this niche matters. AI clusters are running into the physical limits of copper. The industry's fix is moving optics into the chip package itself — co-packaged optics. Lasers hate heat, though. So designers pull them out of the package and pipe light in from outside. That's the external light source, and it's the seat POET has spent years positioning for. IDTechEx projects the CPO market will top $20 billion by 2036, compounding at 37% a year starting in 2026. We covered how Nvidia's $96 billion quarter repriced this whole corner of the market. High-power, multi-wavelength lasers are the fuel line.
The September stack
The calendar keeps filling in. IFOC speech September 8. CIOE September 9-11. Then ECOC in Málaga, where Blazar is nominated for an award — that ceremony lands September 21. And management committed in its Q2 release to a business update this month. That release showed a sixth straight quarter of sequential revenue growth, up 112% year over year, with $796.3 million in cash. The promise was more news in September. Now there's a full month of optics-industry attention wrapped around that promise.
What we're watching
Three things. Whether the speech travels — trade coverage out of Shenzhen would tell us the topic hit. Whether anything concrete surfaces at the show, a partner or a demo or a spec. And the update itself, whenever management is ready. An expo release isn't a catalyst. A crowded September might be.
